WEST COAST BACTERIAL

PHYSIOLOGISTS ANNUAL

ASILOMAR CONFERENCE

One page, or less, abstracts for SHORT presentations are invited on any topic of interest to bacterial physiologists. Abstracts will be used in planning the program; they will be posted on the website and limited copies made available at the meeting. Prior to abstract text, please include title of presentation, authors, and affiliation. Because of continued growth and interest, we ask that each laboratory submit no more than two abstracts for 10-minute talks (5-6 slides recommended). We will try to accommodate as many as possible in the program; if necessary, we may have to ask laboratories to make only one presentation. Such abstracts should be submitted by December 1, 2009 to the Program Co-Chair: Alfred Spormann, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford, CA 94305 (fax: 650-724-4927; email: spormann@stanford.edu). Standard overhead and digital projectors will be available; if you require other equipment please contact Alfred Spormann. Questions about schedule of talks should be addressed to Alfred Spormann (telephone: 650-723-3668; email: spormann@stanford.edu) and questions about administrative aspects should be addressed to Jack Meeks (telephone: 530-752-3346; fax: 530-752-9014; email: jcmeeks@ucdavis.edu).

REGISTRATION FEES:

$240 per person (all meals and housing included). There will be a reduced rate of $170 for graduate students. Spouses and children are welcome. Children aged 3 to 17 years, $65; 2 years and under, $10. These rates are based on the average value for double occupancy of a room. If you wish to have a single room (a few are available) you must pay the cost differential of $150 for the two days (total of $390). This is for Standard housing. Please inform Jack in the SPECIAL ROOM ACCOMMODATIONS section if your registration is for a single room. We will try to accommodate all requests but it will have to be first come, first served. It is exceedingly important that you get your reservation in before the deadline of October 29, 2009. Rooms we do not use, and do not release by the deadline, must be paid for; so we will not hold rooms that are not "spoken for" by that date. If you want to come and there is a compelling reason why you cannot get your money in on time, be sure and call Jack and he will do all he can to accommodate you. In the past some participants have sent in their registration and they have not been received. We, therefore, REQUEST STRONGLY that you send a self-addressed, stamped envelope and your receipt will be sent to you and you will know your form has been received. Or you can FAX your registration (530-752-9014) and, if your money is not received in good time, you will be contacted by telephone. If you do not respond before the deadline and you decide you want to come, you can register for the Conference in the normal way, but you may have to stay at a nearby motel and will have to pay a small additional charge. If you call and ask for special accommodations and they are arranged and you decide not to show, you will probably be assessed a penalty by the Conference Center.

If you do wish to stay in nearby Monterey, Carmel, or Pacific Grove (making your own arrangements), meals can be purchased at the Conference Center and a day-use fee of $20 per day ($60 for the entire conference) will be assessed for use of the Conference Center and meeting rooms. The grounds-use fee must be paid in advance and you must register on the Registration Form. A meal ticket can be bought for off-grounds users for the conference weekend at the Conference Center check-in desk.

"State Law requires Asilomar be notified of all individuals with any type of disability. Please alert Asilomar as to the nature of the disability". On the registration form please indicate any disabilities and any special requests to accommodate your disability.

MEALS:

If you wish to eat vegetarian meals, please indicate this on your reservation form, and the Conference Center will make appropriate arrangements; at check-in time please ask for a vegetarian meal ticket. If you have need of a special medical diet (such as a particular food allergy), please call the Asilomar Conference Grounds (408-372-8016) and ask for Catering. They will be happy to work with you on a one-to-one basis to prepare special foods for you. Box lunches must be ordered before the start of the conference; after the start of the conference you CAN NOT place a box lunch order.

LIQUID REFRESHMENT:

The Conference will provide wine, beer, soft drinks, glasses and miscellaneous snacks for social hours which will be Friday and Saturday evenings from 4:00 to 6:00 and 10:30 to 12:00. Location for social hours will be indicated on the program, which can be picked up at the registration table in the Administration Building.
